Five common habits blocking the anti-aging road

You may think that it is the same few factors that contribute to premature aging of the skin, but there are a few other reasons that might surprise you! For instance, the way you sleep can lead to wrinkles, and have nothing to do with age or genetics.

Reason 1- Sleeping the wrong way

As comfortable as it may be, sleeping on your stomach or on the side can actually to premature aging of the skin. This happens because while turning around throughout the night, the pillowcase can pull on your skin, causing it to loosen up and form wrinkles or fine lines. Furthermore, sleeping with your face on the pillow every night can cause the dead skin cells that accumulate on the pillow, along with other dirt and grime, to clog your pores. This can lead to acne and other skin problems.
To combat this, you can try sleeping on your back. Additionally, if you find that sleeping on your back is uncomfortable, you can get yourself a silk or satin pillowcase, as they do not pull on your skin as much as the regular cotton ones do.

Reason 2- Makeup, makeup, makeup

No matter what we have planned for the day, applying makeup is a constant in our lives. Having said this, if you are not careful you can cause wrinkles and fine lines during both, the applying stage, as well as the removal stage.
When it comes to eyeliner, applying it is not always a breeze. In fact, there seem to be many “tricks” and “hacks” that you can find online that make applying it easier. However, a few of them might actually be harmful for your skin! One of the more popular methods of applying eyeliner is by pulling on the eyelids. This trick is not good in the long term as the skin around your eyes are very sensitive and can get stretched to form wrinkles.
On the other hand, removing makeup aggressively can also be problematic for your skin. We love using makeup that lasts throughout the day, and this includes the use of waterproof mascara or eyeliner. While they are lifesavers during the day, it is a challenge to get it all off during our nighttime routines. Harsh scrubbing of the product can damage the skin and pull on it, leading to looser and sagging skin. To avoid this, we recommend double cleansing, or using an oil cleanser to gently remove all the makeup.

Reason 3- Lack of exercise

Without exercise, the body loses it muscle mass and makes your skin sag as the years go by. Along with this, the body loses its immune system to a certain degree and as a result of this, you may find that your skin may look dull, and scars will take longer to heal.
Studies have found that exercising even if for 30 minutes everyday slows down the process of aging! It is a great anti-aging treatment as it improves blood circulation throughout the body and makes your skin glow with a youthful radiance. And not only does it improve circulation, but it also slows down the aging of the immune system. You can maintain muscle mass better and improve the collagen production in your skin, so that it remains firm.

Reason 4- Alcohol consumption

An intake of alcohol has shown that fine lines appear on the skin earlier than natural, and with age it can deepen into wrinkles. As alcohol causes dehydration in the body, your skin can lose its shine and can become dull. This will further emphasize any spots or acne scars on the face. Furthermore, consuming alcohol regularly can reduce the supply of Vitamin A which is a natural anti-aging element to keeping the skin youthful and firm.

Reason 5- SUNSCREEN!

No skincare blog is complete without a section reserved for sunscreen. It has been said before, and it will be said again, but the sun is your skin’s worst enemy. Skipping sunscreen is the worst thing you can do for your skin as it essentially works as a barrier between you and the harmful rays of the sun. Sun exposure leads to a speedy aging of the skin and can cause deep wrinkles. It is typically considered best practice to wear SPF on a daily basis.
Additionally, it should be noted that while certain foundations and moisturizers advertise their SPF content, they should not be used in favor of an actual sunscreen. The best way to stay ahead of the sun is to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 all year long.
